We all know we have a sugar problem in our food and drinks, and our bodies & health keep paying the price. It's so bad that the U.S. has one of the highest obesity rates in the world, ranking us with the top unhealthiest nations.
Artificial sweeteners like aspartame are a bad alternative. It's crazy that big brands still keep making products with ingredients that aren't good for us, and that small brands like Skinnies are the ones offering the best solutions; 0 sugar, gluten free, plant based and no aspartame.
In our family, like many others, the problems caused by sugar such as diabetes, heart disease and the struggle with obesity are real. We are not saying that we have to look like models, or be skinny to be healthy. What we are saying is that we put so much sugar into our bodies that the end result is obesity and other health issues that are killing us. It's estimated that 46% of all sugar we consume comes from beverages, and that has consequences. My aunt used to drink sodas every day, and she died young from cirrhosis of the liver even though she never drank alcohol.
Who would have thought her soda-sugar addiction would have ended her life too soon? This really impacted us and we knew we needed to make changes in our own lifestyle.
Many of us try living balanced lives. We work hard all week, eat healthy and exercise, but on the weekends, we need to kick back & decompress. So, we hang with friends, go to parties or events, and most of the time we do it while enjoying a cocktail, and that's our downfall because just one Margarita has 24 grams of sugar! Unfortunately, the majority of mixers in the market are loaded with sugar and bad ingredients. That's what inspired us to start Skinnies. A better mixer with 0 sugar.
In 2016 we started developing the flavors and formula out of our Miami kitchen. Culinary school and being a chef came in handy. We made sure that our ingredients were plant based and had zero calories. For sweeteners we decided to use a hint of stevia and erythritol from plants.
Finally, we thought the best and most practical way to make this a reality was with convenient single-serve powder packets that you can take anywhere in your purse or pocket and avoid getting served sugary drinks. So, to make a sugar-free cocktail just mix 1 Skinnies packet with water, add a splash of vodka (or tequila depending on your drink) and garnish with a slice of lime or lemon. That's it, super easy! And when we are not in the mood for alcohol, just mix 1 packet with water (could be sparkling) and enjoy them as mocktails.
We invite you to join the #ZeroSugar movement, to live a better life and start making your cocktail moments 0 sugar!
