We all know we have a sugar problem in our food and drinks and our health keeps paying the price. The U.S. has one of the highest rates of obesity in the world, ranking us with the top unhealthiest nations. Regrettably, artificial sweeteners such as aspartame are hardly a better alternative. It's baffling that big companies persist in making products laden with harmful ingredients, while smaller, more conscientious brands like Skinnies are leading the way in offering healthier alternatives—products that are not only sugar-free but also gluten-free and made with natural ingredients.
In our family, like countless others, we have witnessed firsthand the detrimental effects of sugar, including diabetes, heart disease, and the struggle with obesity. We're not advocating or promoting the notion that one must be super slim to be healthy. What we are asserting is that our excessive sugar intake is undeniably linked to the emergence of these life-threatening health issues. Astonishingly, an estimated 46% of our sugar consumption comes from beverages, and that has consequences. Take for instance, our aunt, who, despite never consuming alcohol, died young from cirrhosis of the liver due to her daily soda habit. This heartbreaking experience spurred us to make significant changes in our own lifestyles.
Many of us try living balanced lives. We work diligently throughout the week, eat healthy and exercise. On weekends we seek relaxation and leisure. We often find ourselves enjoying gatherings with friends or attending events, typically accompanied by a mocktail or cocktail. The issue is that a single Margarita can have up to 24 grams of sugar! In addition, too many drink mixers on the market are also loaded with unhealthy ingredients. That’s what inspired us to start Skinnies – a better mixer with zero sugar.
In 2016, we embarked on a journey to develop the blend of flavors and formula from our Miami kitchen. Ani’s culinary background and expertise as chef played a key role. We were unwavering in our commitment to using natural ingredients. For sweetener, we opted for a subtle touch of stevia sourced from plants. To complete our vision of making it accessible and convenient, we introduced single-serve powder packets that you can take in your purse or pocket to ensure control of what you drink. So, to make a zero sugar mocktail just mix 1 Skinnies packet with water, could be sparkling, and garnish with a slice of lime. It’s that simple! And for those moments that you want to make it a cocktail, just add a splash of vodka or tequila.
We extend a warm invitation to transform your cocktails or mocktails into fun, healthier sugar-free delights! Cheers,
